Environmental issues and climate change continue to pose serious threats to both natural ecosystems and human livelihoods all over the country, including RDS project areas. Problems such as air and water pollution, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events are all linked to unsustainable human activities. Climate change, driven primarily by greenhouse gas emissions, exacerbates these problems and places added pressure on vulnerable communities. Tackling these issues requires not just national and international cooperation but strong grassroots involvement to ensure lasting change at the community level.
The Rural Development Society (RDS), as a local NGO, have been playing a vital role in addressing these challenges with limited resources through targeted and sustainable interventions. RDS works directly with rural communities to raise awareness about climate change and environmental conservation, encouraging practices such as afforestation, organic farming, and responsible water usage. The organization also collaborates with 6 Higher Secondary Schools and their students, and local bodies to conduct environmental education programs and cleanup drives. By empowering locals with knowledge and resources, RDS not only helps reduce environmental degradation but also builds community resilience against climate impacts. Through advocacy, hands-on initiatives, and capacity-building efforts, RDS demonstrates how local action can contribute meaningfully to global environmental goals.
